Context

Women are frequent targets of hate speech on social media. Hateful narratives vary from casual trivialities to violent threats or even attacks against women and girls.

These unjust attitudes towards women are usually generated by cultural stereotypes on gender roles, misogynistic attitudes and toxic political contexts.

The paper

This report offers a review of gender-based hate speech in Estonia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Spain. It gives insight into triggering factors, perpetrators and notable hate incidents.

Also, it puts forward a set of recommendations for decision-makers in each country on how to tackle hate more efficiently.
